Los Angeles Nasal Fractures

Nasal Fractures

The nasal bones are prone to injury, especially with contact sports and falls. Most of the nose is composed of cartilage and bone, making a high-impact injury to the nose vulnerable to fracture. Our Los Angeles plastic surgery office is equipped to handle acute emergency nasal fractures as well as old nasal fractures. Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian at Kare Plastic Surgery + Skin Health Center in Santa Monica provides comprehensive options for nasal fractures.

The assessment of a nasal fracture begins with an examination to determine whether the bone or cartilage is broken. Although bleeding is an important clinical sign of nasal fractures, the nasal bones and cartilage can break in the absence of mucosal bleeding. Dr. Karamanoukian will likely perform an external nasal exam followed by an internal exam if there is suspicion of septal or cartilage fractures.

Timing is important when diagnosing and treating nasal fractures. A delay in diagnosis may put patients at risk for a dreaded complication known as a septal perforation. If you suspect a nasal fracture, our office can accommodate your request urgently.

Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a double board certified plastic surgeon and an expert in septorhinoplasty surgery, revision rhinoplasty, and nasal fracture repair. He has specialty training rhinoplasty surgery in the United States and internationally with leading centers for nasal surgery and reconstruction.

If you are considering a septoplasty or rhinoplasty for an old nasal fracture, a consultation can provide you with options for repair. These procedures can address functional breathing problems and cosmetic issues as there is considerable overlap in nasal anatomy that contributes to nasal obstruction and nasal support. A crooked nose, or overprojected nose can be addressed during your surgery in order to improve cosmesis and functional breathing.

Our plastic surgery in Santa Monica offers both open and closed rhinoplasty procedures, depending on your individual needs and cosmetic desires. An open rhinoplasty uses longer incisions at the base of the nose, whereas a closed rhinoplasty uses only internal nasal incisions.
