Lip Scar Revision in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills

Lip scars can significantly impact your confidence and appearance, whether they result from injuries, previous surgeries, or trauma. At Kare Plastic Surgery & Skin Health Center, our board-certified plastic surgeon and board-certified dermatologist specialize in lip scar revision in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, offering advanced techniques to minimize the appearance of unsightly scars and restore your lips' natural beauty.  Our goal is to address lip scars with revision or reconstruction techniques that incorporate surgery, laser-based treatments, and skincare solutions to maximize natural outcomes. Our plastic surgeon is globally-recognized as an expert in scar revision surgery and scar transformation. Our dermatologist and plastic surgical team are renowned for their expertise in handling delicate skin tissue, such as the lip vermilion and cupids bow, for complex reconstruction.

What Is Lip Scar Revision?

Lip scar revision is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of scars on or around the lips. This treatment addresses various scar types, including hypertrophic scars (raised and thick), keloid scars (extending beyond the original injury), and contracture scars that may restrict movement. The goal is to make scars less noticeable by improving texture, color, and overall uniformity with surrounding skin. We see many of our patients after lip lift surgery, cleft lip surgery, or traumatic skin injuries such as dog bites or car accidents. Although not every patient wants surgery, combination treatments work best. Dr. Karamanoukian is talented in both primary scar revision of the lips or secondary revision after previous surgery.

Treatment Options for Lip Scar Revision

Depending on your scar's size, depth, and location, treatment may involve:

  • Surgical Revision: Removing scar tissue and meticulously closing the wound for optimal healing

  • Laser Therapy: Non-invasive fractional laser treatments to improve skin texture and tone

  • Steroid Injections: Reducing inflammation and thickness in hypertrophic scars

  • Dermabrasion: Resurfacing techniques to smooth irregular scarring
  • Subcision of scar tissue on the lip
  • Combination Approaches: Multiple techniques for comprehensive results

Is Fraxel laser recommended to treat a lip scar?

Fraxel lasers can be used to improve the texture and color of scars on the face and body. We recommend several different types of fractional lasers in our Santa Monica plastic surgery office, especially in new scars that have formed after trauma or surgery. Lip lift scars are commonly seen underneath the nose and these may become permanent if not treated early. At Kare Plastic Surgery, we use a thulium fractional laser known as LaseMD, Clear and Brilliant, Fraxel, and Fractional CO2 to help improve these scars.

We would recommend the Vbeam laser for fresh, red scars that have signs of inflammation and redness. Dr. Karamanoukian can titrate the laser setting to deliver more or less energy to eliminate the scar.
