Is it OK if my sutures/stitches get wet? In most cases, plastic surgeons expect good hygeine as part of a patients postoperative woundcare. If you get the wound or the stitches wet, its imperative that the water is clean and flowing so as to reduce any bacterial contaminatio to an open wound. Showers with clean water are generally alright if the wound is water-tight. Ultimately, these are general rules and you should follow the advice of your treating surgeon where appropriate.
