Keloid Surgery in Los Angeles and Laser Therapy

This study examines multimodal therapy for the treatment of keloid scars and hypertrophic scars. Historically, single therapy surgery is linked to poor longterm results as a result of high recurrence rates. Multimodal strategies that include laser and intralesional therapies have had better longterm results. This study examined protocols that combined carbon dioxide laser, yag laser, non-ablative lasers, vascular lasers such as ND:Yag and Vbeam, and IPL. Adjuvant therapy was also discussed including PRP and laser assisted delivery of scar modulators. Adverse results including erythema, edema, or temporary dyschromia are safety concerns and should be tempered with a reduction in inflammation.

The conclusions demonstrated beneficial effects in the use of multimodal therapy and keloids. .

Practical applications of this study affirm the benefits of treating keloids with multimodal therapy, which we believe works well to decrease keloid bulk and volume, as well as inflammation.
