Patients complain of visible scars on the buttocks and hips requiring a combination of surgical excision, laser, and radiofrequency scar treatment.
Liposuction BBL scars are prone to hypertrophy and keloid scarring in all skin types. Appropriate treatment of liposuction scars include the application of Plato’s Scar Serum twice daily once the skin has healed over from surgery. The scar serum can modulate scar growth when combined with laser therapy. Most scars will benefit from our HIDEF scar removal treatments that include lasers, topical scar protocols, RF microneedling, PRP, intralesional injections, fractional laser, and skin resurfacing.
For those patients who have already developed thick and liposuction scars from a BBL, it’s important to reduce the visibility of the scar and we use a combination of techniques that include melapeel pink for deep hyperpigmentation, Melarase cream for dark discoloration can also be applied twice daily on the skin, and laser therapy to improve the texture and contour of the scars.

Morpheus8 RF
Morpheus 8 Microneedling RF is an excellent treatment to help reduce scarring from BBL liposuction or 360 liposuction in which the scars are placed in visible areas. We use Morpheus 8 for atrophic scars, deep scars, textural scars, and pigmented scars and combine the RF with topical depigmenting treatments to reduce pigmentation. Morpheus uses thermal energy RF with microneedles to help reduce scarring and help improve the visibility of textural and contoured scars from liposuction. Often, the Morpheus 8 scar removal will be combined with PRP, PRF, intralesional therapy, Melapeel C peels, chemical peels, and glutathione mesotherapy to help improve color.
Venus Viva RF
Venus Viva RF is one of our most popular and effective treatments to help with textural scars caused during a liposuction or tummy tuck/body lift procedure. The technique is similar to Morpheus 8 but is less invasive and ideal for patients who want a slower protocol without a lot of downtime after treatments. RF microfractional Venus Viva has been used extensively in clinical trial to induce collagen production and reduce inflammation associated with scarring and hypertrophy. This treatment is ideal for all skin types and should be combined with PRP and PRF treatments to further improve scarring from BBL or tummy tuck surgery.
Vbeam laser for scars
The pulsed dye laser can work to reduce redness, inflammation, keloid, and hypertrophic scar growth in scars that have gotten larger and more visible after a BBL or liposuction procedure. In our Medical Spa, we use Vbeam laser after plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology treatments in patients who still have visible scarring. The treatment is idea when combined with Melapeel Pink to help reduce pigmentation and redness from a surgical scar. Often, Dr. Karamanoukian may combine the Vbeam laser with Venus Viva, microneedling, or PRP to further enhance results.
