Patient Result — Kare Skin Health Center, Santa Monica · PRP Hair Restoration
PRP Hair Restoration — Before and After
Actual patient result · Androgenetic alopecia treated with PRP platelet-rich plasma · Individual results may vary
Before: Significant vertex and crown thinning with scalp visibly exposed through diffuse androgenetic alopecia. After: Dramatically denser, fuller hair coverage with scalp substantially covered and hair density restored across the crown. Kare Skin Health Center, Santa Monica. Individual results may vary.
What the Before Image Shows
The vertex (crown) view shows the classic pattern of androgenetic alopecia with diffuse thinning centered on the crown and vertex with the surrounding temporal and occipital hair largely preserved. The scalp is clearly visible through the miniaturized hair shafts. This pattern is driven by DHT-mediated follicle miniaturization and responds well to PRP therapy when treatment begins before complete follicle loss.
How PRP Produced This Result
Platelet-rich plasma concentrated growth factors including PDGF, VEGF, and IGF-1 stimulate the dermal papilla cells that control the hair follicle growth cycle. PRP prolongs the anagen growth phase, shortens the telogen resting phase, and reactivates miniaturized follicles that retain the biological capacity to produce terminal hair. The result is increased hair density, thicker individual hair shafts, and reduced shedding visible in the after photograph above.
The After Result
The after photograph shows substantially denser hair coverage across the vertex with the scalp no longer visible through the hair at the crown.
How PRP Works
What Happens During a PRP Hair Restoration Session at Kare Skin Health Center
PRP hair restoration uses the growth factors concentrated within your own blood platelets to stimulate the hair follicles at the cellular level. Because the treatment uses material from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction and no foreign substance is introduced. The entire session takes 30 to 60 minutes and requires no surgical preparation, no general anesthesia, and no recovery period.
Blood Draw
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, exactly as it would be for a routine blood test.
Centrifuge
Centrifuge purification isolates the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells.
PRP separation
The platelet-rich plasma layer is extracted into a syringe.
Scalp Preparation
A topical numbing cream is applied to the scalp area before injection.
PRP Injection
The concentrated PRP is injected with a very fine microneedle in small doses.
Follow-Up
Most patients complete 3 initial sessions spaced 1 month apart.
Who Is a Good Candidate for PRP Hair Restoration
Male Pattern Baldness
PRP is most effective for men with early to moderate androgenetic alopecia. Men with complete baldness in an area have already lost the follicles that PRP would stimulate and are better served by hair transplant consultation. Dr. Sierro assesses follicle viability at the first visit with dermoscopy.
Female Pattern Hair Loss
Women with diffuse thinning across the crown and vertex are excellent PRP candidates. Female pattern hair loss is driven by the same DHT-mediated follicle miniaturization as male pattern baldness and responds well to PRP growth factor stimulation.
Early Hair Loss at Any Age
Patients who are losing hair in their 20s and 30s are often the best PRP responders because their follicles retain full biological capacity and have not yet undergone significant miniaturization.
Telogen Effluvium
Telogen effluvium is diffuse shedding triggered by physical or emotional stress, nutritional deficiency, hormonal change, or illness. PRP accelerates follicle recovery and shortens the duration of the effluvium shed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I get PRP hair loss treatment in Santa Monica?
Kare Skin Health Center at 804 7th Street in Santa Monica near Montana Avenue offers expert PRP hair restoration by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Tiffany Sierro. Dermoscopic hair loss diagnosis followed by platelet-rich plasma injections for androgenetic alopecia, female pattern hair loss, and hair thinning. Call (310) 998-5533. We serve patients from Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and all of Los Angeles.
Does PRP for hair loss hurt?
Most patients describe PRP scalp injections as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. Dr. Sierro applies topical numbing cream to the scalp before the injection phase and uses the finest available microneedle for injection. The blood draw beforehand is no different from a routine blood test. Most patients find the procedure very well tolerated and return to their normal activities immediately afterward with no downtime required.
How soon will I see hair growth after PRP?
Most patients notice a reduction in shedding within 4 to 6 weeks of the first PRP session. Visible improvement in hair density, coverage, and hair shaft thickness typically becomes apparent at 3 to 6 months as the stimulated follicles progress through the anagen growth phase. The full result of the initial 3-session series is typically visible at 6 months. Maintenance sessions every 4 to 6 months sustain and extend these results over time. Dr. Sierro photographs the treatment area at each visit to document progress objectively.
