Some large varicose veins may require a surgical treatment known as mini-phlectomy to remove large varicose veins. Other descriptors used to describe this procedure include ambulatory phlebectomy and microphlebectomy.
In this minor surgical procedure, tiny incisions are made in the skin through which large varicose veins are surgically removed. The incisions are often so small, they do not require stitches to heal. Our office uses plastic surgery principles to repair the wounds and improve the cosmetic outcome of the procedure.
Mini-phlebectomy is typically performed in the office under local anesthesia with or without sedation. Phlebectomy might be done along with another treatment for varicose veins, including the following:
